La femme publique (1984) The Public Woman

In Paris, a naïve young actress lands a role in a film based on Dostoyevsky’s The Possessed, directed by a charismatic Czech émigré. As rehearsals unfold, the line between fiction and reality begins to dissolve. Drawn into the director’s psychological games, she finds herself assuming a role far beyond the screen—posing as the dead wife of a fellow exile, who is being manipulated into committing a political assassination. A haunting exploration of identity, obsession, and the dangerous power of art.
